The Aviation Centre - Tyabb

The Aviation Centre's Tyabb branch is based in Western Port Airfield on the Mornington Peninsula. It boasts generous hangar space and a large, well equipped structural repair facility as well as a separate preparation and painting  building.  Our Tyabb branch is also home to our engine overhaul and fuel system maintenance facility.

Our hangar floor is equipped to provide services such as:

  • Cessna SID's inspections
  • Corrosion treatment and removal
  • Crash recovery and transport
  • Electrical and instrument services (Avionics)
  • Fabric covering and repair
  • Fibreglass repair
  • Hose remanufacture
  • Internal corrosion inhibiting treatment
  • Major and minor structural repair
  • Painting services
  • Pre-purchase inspections
  • Supplemental type certificate (STC) modifications

as well as...

Scheduled aircraft maintenance:

    • 50 hourly oil change
    • 100 hourly inspection
    • Annual inspection

      and more..!

Our Tyabb facility is composed of three individual buildings.  Two large adjacent hangars, one for line maintenance and the other for heavy maintenance and structural repair.  The third building is our preparation and painting facility.

At The Aviation Centre we value the personal nature of owning an aircraft.  Many of our engineers have obtained their PPL's and as such appreciate the importance of having an aircraft functioning as it should.  We work in conjunction with our customers to understand their needs and their budgets; and endeavour to meet their requirements in a timely and affordable fashion.

Whatever your aircraft maintenance requirements, our staff are more than happy to answer your questions, all you have to do is contact our Tyabb branch.

Cessna Supplemental Inspection Documents (SID's)

The compliance dates for Cessna Supplemental Inspection Documents (SID's) are fast approaching. Depending on the series of your aircraft, SID's compliance dates start as early as December 31 2014 and at the latest June 30 2016. CASA Airworthiness Bulletin AWB02-048 contains explanatory information regarding compliance with Cessna SID's, such as:

“The SIDs programs, successively developed by Cessna for all 400, 300, 200 and 100 series aircraft, provide an inspection regime to ensure the structural integrity of the airframe is maintained. These supplemental inspections complement those inspections undertaken during existing scheduled maintenance activities, as the failure of such PSEs (principal structural elements) could result in catastrophic loss of the aircraft.”

Additionally;

“The requirement to undertake the Cessna SIDs applies irrespective of the category of operation or the elected maintenance schedule for the aircraft, be it:

CAR 42A Manufacturer’s Maintenance Schedule,

CAR 42B CASA Maintenance Schedule (Schedule 5), or

CAR 42C Approved System of Maintenance.”

Our experienced engineering staff have been carrying out SID's inspections across a range of different model Cessna's with great competence and efficiency. Our supervising staff will walk you through the inspection process and explain in detail what is required and what work will be carried out on your aircraft. You will be regularly updated on the progress of the inspections and alerted immediately in the event of a major defect being detected.

To ensure compliance with Cessna SID's requirements and the continued safety and airworthiness of your aircraft, or if you have any questions please contact us.

Engine/Airframe 100 hourly/Annual inspections

Whatever make or model your aircraft; whether it be fabric covered, composite or full metal construction; piston engine or turbine, your aircraft will be inspected and serviced professionally by our experienced technicians.  Care will be taken to ensure your aircraft is safe and serviceable through to your next scheduled maintenance check and beyond.

Corrosion Inhibiting Treatment

Aircraft receiving inhibiting treatmentCorrosion is considered the number one enemy of aircraft around the world.  The costs of removing, treating and often repair or replacement of parts due to corrosion can rapidly become very expensive if not found and rectified in its early stages. In most cases the best cure for corrosion is prevention.

To protect your aircraft from corrosion formation as much as possible, have The Aviation Centre spray the internal structure of your aircraft with an approved Anti Corrosion Formula (we recommend ACF-50).

To view more information on ACF-50 you can visit the ACF-50 website.

Basic/Complex repairs or modifications

We are now fortunate enough to have access to a second hangar space dedicated to sheet metal work and repair, utilising high quality tooling to ensure any repairs, big or small, are of the highest quality.

We also have a dedicated paint shop to ensure your parts are fully protected against the elements.

Corrosion Treatment and Removal

  • Worm like lines or bubbles starting to form under your paint?
  • White powdery substances developing on external, or worse, internal structure?

Have it professionally removed by our trained staff before it becomes a dangerous and not to mention costly situation.

We can remove harmful corrosion in situ or on removed components depending on what the situation demands.  After corrosion removal, the surface will be treated to ensure all of the corrosion has been neutralised before being given a protective chemical treatment (Alodine®) and finally painted.

Do not delay removing corrosion, as active corrosion does not go away, it will only get worse leading to greater material loss, greater costs (including possible replacement of damaged parts) and greater danger of parts becoming weak and potentially failing.
